SMiRT-22 Key Note Speaker

Dr. Regis A. Matzie, Vice Chairman, ASME Presidential Task Force; Senior Vice President and Chief Technology Officer, Westinghouse (retired)

Title: ASME’s Post Fukushima Initiative – Forging a New Nuclear Safety Construct

In response to the March 2011 Great East Japan Earthquake and Tsunami that caused great loss of life and extensive destruction of property, as well as a severe reactor accident at the Fukushima Dai-ichi site, the ASME formed a Presidential Task Force to examine these events and their implications.  The Task Force has since published its report, hosted a workshop where 125 of the world’s most influential decision makers and leaders participated, representing 20 countries, and developed a set of recommendations and actions on how to proceed to move forward the New Nuclear Safety Construct.

On behalf of the SMiRT-22 Organizing Committee,

           Farhang Ostadan

Chairman of SMiRT-22
